The Cavalier king
Is a dog with a particular proud character and he/she will decide to be sporty or a great sleepyhead. There is no doubt that he has a super affectionate side, fearless, always cheerful and never aggressive. These qualities have made him a perfect companion dog.
The history of the Cavalier King
We find them between 1500 and 1700 in some paintings by famous artists, both in Europe and in the USA. Brought back to fame around 1600 by King Charles I who bred the breed by slightly changing its appearance and making it take on the characteristics of the current ones.
Initially used as hunting dogs for small animals, Cavalier kings became the dogs of the English noble class, so much so that the name of this breed changed from Toy Spaniel to Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, in honor of King Charles II who, a great lover of breed, decreed that Cavalier Kings could enter public places without any restrictions, including Parliament.
The legend
Numerous legends hover around the Cavalier King. It is said that the small red spot called Blenheim present on the forehead of the Cavalier King is the 'sign of anxiety' of Duchess Sarah, wife of the Duke of Marlborough, who, worried about the fate of her husband who was fighting the battle of Blenheim in Bavaria he often used to stroke the head of his pregnant Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog with his thumb.
When the puppies were born, all five of them had a small red spot on their foreheads like the imprint of His Grace's thumb, a sign that is called a spot and is still much appreciated by breeders of this breed today.
